The Paideia · Est. 2008
Business acumen, taught the way a trade is taught — one Principle a day, practised at your own counter. Three courses, thirty Principles, three certificates. Every lesson opens straight into the Shopkeeper, who works it against your own shop.
How it works
Read the day's Principle in The Book.
Work it with the Shopkeeper against a real question in your shop.
Record what actually happened in your Ledger.
Close the Day. Ten closed Days earn the course certificate.

Apprentice of the Shop

Knows the ground: plan, prototype, parameters, purview — the foundations of a sound shop.
Know your true cost
Add up everything one sale costs you — the item, the bag, the gas, your hour. Price from that number, never from what the shop down the road charges.
Keep money in and money out apart
One account for the shop, one for home. Write every dollar in The Book the day it moves, even the small ones.
Start with one thing done well
A single product people love beats a full shelf nobody understands. Add the second thing only when the first sells without you explaining it.
Write down who you serve
Name three real people you want as customers. If you can't picture them, your sign, your words and your prices won't find them either.
Set aside for taxes on day one
Put a fixed share of every sale aside before you spend any of it. Ask a local accountant what share is right for you.

The Law of Plan
Intelligence · Blue Sapphire
Day One is the Law of Plan. It is the floor of the whole thirty. Every other law is laid on top of this one, and every other law stays under it — a plan is not the first step you take and then leave behind, it is the thing the rest of the days are standing on.
Work this lesson →The Law of Prototype
Intelligence · Ruby
Day Two is the Law of Prototype. Day One drew the plan; Day Two makes the first one. A prototype is the first article — the model the rest are judged and cut from. It is an OUT day: something leaves your hands.
Work this lesson →The Law of Parameter
Intelligence · Emerald
Day Three is the Law of Parameter. A parameter is a boundary you WANT — two brackets holding the work so it can grow. Day One drew the plan, Day Two made the first article; Day Three sets the bounds it lives inside. It is an IN day: nothing leaves, everything is gathered and held.
Work this lesson →The Law of Purview
Intelligence · Rutilated Quartz
Day Four is the Law of Purview. A purview is the range of what you can see and the range of what you are responsible for — the line of sight and the scope of office in one word. Day Three set the brackets; Day Four is what falls inside your view and therefore inside your care. It is an OUT day: attention leaves you and lands on something.
Work this lesson →The Law of Poise
Intelligence · Blue Lace Agate
Poise is not stillness for its own sake. Poise is weight held so evenly that nothing spills. A composed woman is not a quiet woman — she is a woman whose inside and outside agree, so her presence arrives before her words do.
Work this lesson →The Law of Potential
Intelligence · Clear Quartz
Potential is not a promise about tomorrow. Potential is capacity that already exists and has not yet been drawn out. You do not go and get potential. You have potential. The law only asks whether the vessel is clean enough for what is inside it to come out.
Work this lesson →The Law of Plenty
Intelligence · Aquamarine
Plenty is not a pile. Plenty is a supply that keeps arriving. A woman who believes in a pile guards it; a woman who knows plenty breathes it out, because the ocean she draws from does not notice what she took.
Work this lesson →The Law of Possibility
Intelligence · Labradorite
Possibility is not wishing. Possibility is an opening that already exists, found and then widened. Day 6 and Day 7 add to Day 8: Potential cleaned the vessel, Plenty gave her a supply that keeps arriving. Add capacity to supply and you get Possibility — because a clean vessel with an ocean behind it can be opened without fear of running out.
Work this lesson →The Law of Purpose
Intelligence · Fluorite
Day 7 and Day 8 add to Day 9. Plenty gave her a supply that keeps arriving; Possibility gave her an opening. Add supply to access and you must have a center, or both will scatter you. That center is Purpose.
Work this lesson →Course 2 · Days 11–20
Using the toolkit — reasoning, comparing, projecting, organising, applying.
Certificate
Journeyman of Fair Dealing
Sign in to track
Reasons through a dealing: pursuit, potentiality, the people and the price.
Ask before you pitch
Your first question to a customer should be about their problem, not your product. What they say will tell you what to offer.
Follow up within two days
Most sales are lost to silence, not to 'no'. A short, kind note two days later is the cheapest marketing you'll ever do.
Trade with your neighbours
Find the shop whose customers are also yours — the beekeeper, the outfitter, the café — and offer each other something real.
Watch your margin, not your sales
A busy month can still lose money. Each week, look at what's left after costs, not just what came in.
Make the promise you can keep
Say only what you can deliver every single time. A small promise kept builds more trust than a big one broken once.

The Law of Presentation
Intellect · Opal
Hear the order, because the order is the law: first you endear, then you exhibit. A business must draw before it can display. If it exhibits first and has not endeared, people admire it from a distance and walk on.
Work this lesson →The Law of Personality
Intellect · Tiger's Eye
You would think Day 11 was personality — originality, shining, the one-of-one. It is not. Presentation comes before personality. You must learn to present yourself before you are allowed to shine with personality, or the shine has nothing to stand on.
Work this lesson →The Law of Pursuit
Intellect · Sodalite
This is the scholar day. Pursuit is not chasing — chasing is panic with a direction. Pursuit is study in motion: she follows a thing until it gives up what it knows.
Work this lesson →The Law of Potentiality
Intellect · Citrine
Day 12 and Day 13 add to Day 14. Personality — the recipe, the outflow — added to Pursuit — the study that becomes operations — equals Potentiality.
Work this lesson →The Law of Power
Intellect · Hematite
Day 13 and Day 14 add to Day 15. Pursuit — the study that becomes operations — added to Potentiality — capacity that keeps enlarging — equals Power.
Work this lesson →The Law of Passage
Intellect · Blue Kyanite
This is an OUT day. Day 15 drew power in; the sixteenth gives it out. Passage is what power does when it moves — through a woman, through a room, through a business, through a wall. Nothing stays where it was.
Work this lesson →The Law of Prospects
Intellect · Green Aventurine
This is an IN day, and it is a sum. Day 14 gave potentiality, Day 15 gave power, Day 16 gave passage — and only now do prospects appear. You do not get the prospect before you have the power to hold it and the passage to move through it. Fourteen and fifteen and sixteen stack, and the seventeenth is what they add up to. The laws are exponential: each one is built on the ones already given.
Work this lesson →The Law of Positivity
Intellect · Sunstone
This is an OUT day. The seventeenth drew the outlook in; the eighteenth spends it. Prospects were seen on an IN day — positivity is what she does with them out loud. And it is a law, not a mood: positivity works the way gravity works, whether or not she feels it that morning.
Work this lesson →The Law of Productivity
Intellect · Moss Agate
Day Seventeen and Day Eighteen make up Day Nineteen. Prospects gave her the outlook; positivity gave her the sword. You cannot be productive at all until you have the right outlook — and this is the King and Queen day, one of the most important in the thirty.
Work this lesson →The Law of Prowess
Intellect · Nephrite Jade
Day Twenty is the last day of the Intellect — the close of the season that began on Day Eleven — and it segues straight into Intuitiveness. Everything the mind gathered is now handed to the nerve. Intellect ends in courage, because knowing a thing and doing it are two different women.
Work this lesson →Course 3 · Days 21–30
Recognising direction, signs, patterns, consequences and possibilities from what has been accumulated. Not feeling — reading.

Master Shopkeeper
Sign in to track
Sees the point before the options, reads the signs, and takes the best option.
Choose the one best option
Once you see the point, pick the single best move and do it fully. Three half-moves cost more than one whole one.
Read the signs early
Returns rising, a regular going quiet, a supplier running late — write them in The Book the day you notice. Small signs become big bills.
Say no to the wrong work
Turning down a customer who doesn't fit protects your time for the ones who do. Rule out before you add.
Let your customers carry your name
Ask your happiest customer for a review or a referral while the good feeling is fresh. Their word travels further than your ad.
Review the month, then act
At month's end, read your pages back. Keep what worked, drop one thing that didn't, and write the next month's single aim.

The Law of Point
Intuitiveness · Iolite
Day Twenty-One opens Intuitiveness — the beginning of consideration, and consideration is the beginning of Wisdom. In the Intellect we learned logic: how a thing follows a thing. Here we learn something older. Logic tells you whether the road is sound. Point tells you which way the ship is aimed.
Work this lesson →The Law of Patronage
Intuitiveness · Lapis Lazuli
Day Twenty-Two is an OUT day, and patronage is the whole shape of it. Yesterday she read the signs and kept her point. Today she turns outward and meets somebody. Patronage is what a woman spends on another — her attention, her name, her custom, her backing.
Work this lesson →The Law of Paradox
Intuitiveness · Snowflake Obsidian
Day Twenty-Three is an IN day, and it is the mystery day of this season. Yesterday she went out and learned to meet a person level — to equal. Today she comes back in and learns that everything level has two sides. Before a woman can understand a plus she has to understand an opposite, because you cannot add to a thing until you know what it is not.
Work this lesson →The Law of Passion
Intuitiveness · Rhodochrosite
Day Twenty-Four is an OUT day. Yesterday she came in and learned that everything level has two sides. Today she goes back out, and what she carries out is passion — not heat, not appetite, but the old sense of the word: to suffer with, to feel for, to be moved on behalf of another. Passion is what compassion is made of.
Work this lesson →The Law of Position
Intuitiveness · Amethyst
Day Twenty-Five is an IN day, and it is the Law of Position. Position: the place a thing occupies, the side it stands on, the posture it is held in, and the standing it carries. To position is to set a thing deliberately where it will do what you intend. She comes in to think, and what she is thinking about is placement — what goes on which side.
Work this lesson →The Law of Production
Intuitiveness · Garnet
Day Twenty-Six is an OUT day, and it is the Law of Production. Production: the act of bringing a thing into existence — making, yielding, causing to be. Not activity. Not motion. Production is what exists at the end of the day that did not exist at the beginning of it.
Work this lesson →The Law of Perfecting
Intuitiveness · Herkimer Diamond
Day Twenty-Seven is the Law of Perfecting. Perfecting: to make a thing thoroughly complete — per + facere, to do it all the way through. Not perfectionism, which is fear of being seen unfinished. Perfecting is the ongoing work of bringing a made thing to plumb.
Work this lesson →The Law of Priority
Intuitiveness · Carnelian
Day Twenty-Eight is the Law of Priority. Priority: from prior — that which comes before. Not what matters most in theory, but what actually goes first when both cannot. A priority is only proven by what is put down.
Work this lesson →The Law of Procurement
Intuitiveness · Petrified Wood
Day Twenty-Nine is the Law of Procurement. To procure is to get a thing and to get it properly — from pro + curare, to care for on behalf of. Procurement is not wishing, and it is not buying; it is the whole discipline of obtaining what the house needs, in order, and keeping it once it comes.
Work this lesson →The Law of Perpetuality
Intuitiveness · Pearl
Day Thirty is the Law of Perpetuality. It is the last law and it is not an ending — it is the turn. Thirty days do not finish a woman; they finish a layer. Then the whole thing begins again over the top of what you built, concentric, sphere upon sphere, a new house every time round, each one perfecting the last.
